Hello Everyone! We are about to close on our new home. It's a 1940's cottage and it's absolutely adorable! The house has a ton of character but as you can see below A LOT of knotty pine wood. I don't have any crazy plans of doing much with the living/dining room, I think changing all the wood in there would change the feel too drastically and if I decided to change it I want to sit on it and do it later. What i cannot stand is the lighter, cheaper knotty pine in the bathroom! FYI these are pictures of the listing, we'll be updating a lot. The bathroom is already very small and I'm thinking of putting in a pedastal sink, classic small white tiles for the floor and ripping out the tub and putting a nice new tub/shower but with tiles around it. I feel like if we painted the knotty pine in the bathroom it would help update the whole house. Little updates like that would help even if we kept the living/dining room the same. Also for the bathroom...maybe tin ceiling?
What do you think about painting knotty pine? At least just the small bathroom's worth...? White of course...
Thanks in advance!
Katie

Yes, I would paint it. Use a good primer like Kilz, which should also cover the knots nicely, but I've never used it for knotty pine. If one coat doesn't appear to be enough, do a second thinner coat over the knots before painting white. I've painted p
Just purchased a house that is 90% knotty pine too!
Instead of doing several coats of paint and trying to hide the wood, we did a more whitewash/limewash look.
Used regular flat latex paint in a slightly grey/blue-tone to neutralize
