shabby chic?

I would really like to do my home in shabby chic decor but I have 2 small children and the very pale colors make me nervous. My living room suit is gray. Can I make it work? Also I have some pieces that are near and dear to me that won't incorporate in that style. What do I do with them?

You could do most of your decor with white and soft hews but could definitely have like a navy couch...or use a vintagey red. Just use the punch of color for things you think will get used a little too much. It's all in the pieces of furniture and acce

It really depends on the pieces you want to keep. Couches? tables? Lamps? Most of the times you can use them as accent pieces, or just modify them easily (throw a table cloth on it, add pillows and a throw on a couch, etc) And I get the whole being nervou

I think the nice thing about shabby chic style is that you can throw lots of different pieces together, and they still look good. So far as having it in a home with kids, I have 3 (and another on the way) and my whole house has a white and grey theme! The walls are silk emulsion so nice and wipe clean for mucky little fingers, and I try and buy things that are easy to clean/washable. The grey sofa will work just fine - just buy in or make cushions in a mix of prints, styles and textures to give it the shabby look. You might have to take a few precautions putting things out of reach but the look works just fine in a family home and I think it gives it a lovely inviting cosy feel
