can we talk about Disney World?

We are thinking about going to DW for DD's 5th birthday present. Her birthday is actually in December - but that's an insane time for me (and Disney) so we are thinking about going in January. I've done a little reading and it looks like the 1st week of Januray is a great time for Disney and very uncrowded. I think we'll go for 4 days/maybe 5. I'm thinking about staying at one of the hotels in Downtown Disney rather than actually staying at a Disney Hotel. Theoretically this seems more convenient and slightly cheaper and I like that its close to all the downtown Disney activities/restaurants. I know some of you have been there many times - chime in and let me knwo your thoughts.

  • I recommend staying at a Disney resort, you just get so much out of it,  but if you don't want to, those hotels right along the road the downtown disney is on, are your best choice. You can hop on the busses from DD and get to the parks easily.</p

  • If you change your mind about the month, early/mid December is actually a great time to go because it's not too crowded and all of the Christmas decorations are up. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios is amazing.

  • I'm with the others - I would recommend staying on property.  You are able to take advantage of the busses and the dining plan.

I think the first week in January is a good time - the crowds aren't too bad and the weather is pretty good.

  • When we went in October, we were originally booked in the Treehouses at Saratoga Springs. Friends of ours stays there annually and speak highly of the accommodations, but did caution us that the travel time on Disney transportation can be lengthy. And
