question 2: your opinion on pond decor?

I'm trying to decide what sort of exterior I want to do on the walls and cap of our pond. I'm deciding between a flagstone veneer, brick, or river rock. I'm sort of leaning toward flagstone, b/c I can use additional stones to create a little "patio" near the pond just by clearing the grass and laying the stones in a little bit of sand (I want to do a little bench or something near the pond.) Also, with the flagstones, I can border out the flowerbeds to look like little paths, and just lay them at random in ugly corners to tie the yard together. If I do brick or river rocks, it would be harder to tie those elements around the yard, and create a flat seating area without making a mess or mortaring a whole wall or something.

opinions, please?

flagstone...?

brick..?

river rocks..?

River Rock Installed

Re: question 2: your opinion on pond decor?

  • flagstone is my favorite. IMO, I think it looks more natural than river rock. I hate river rocks. LOL. Brick is nice too, but I would go for #1. We don't have it at our house, but flagstone seems like it would be fairly easy to keep up with.
  • i'm also favoring the flagstone b/c were are going to use a big chunk of it to make an "island" in the middle of the pond for the turtles to climb on and bask in the sun, so it would all match...
