Vent!

Just need to let off some steam ladies, hope you don't mind!  So I'm finally graduating pharmacy school in about 5 weeks (yay!) and have accepted a position back in my home state of Minnesota (double yay!!) and am now trying to figure out where to live.  H will be staying in Nebraska until he can find a job in Minnesota, so initially it will just be me moving.  Where I'm going has a lot of student housing, and a lot of income restricted housing, but not a lot of rentals for people that aren't in either of those two categories (like me!)  I found two places that seemed decent, and we were all set to drive up in 2 weeks when my ICU rotation is over, until I found out the one got rented.  So now we're down to 1 place, and she won't show it on a weekend (and since I don't have vacation, we therefore won't be able to see it).  So my plan was to just put the deposit down to hold it, have my parents drive down to see it next week, and call it a day.  DH refuses to put money down without someone seeing it.  It's a $250 deposit, which I think is worth it to not be homeless.  In the scheme of things, that's not that much money, and since I haven't found anything else, unless it's a total crap hole we're taking it.  It's relatively new, pictures look nice, and it's expensive- how bad can it be?!  He hasn't done any of the research, while I've done all of it amongst my 12-hour ICU days this month.  I am about ready to scream and/or cry.  Not really looking for anything, just had to tell someone and you ladies are always safe :)

Re: Vent!

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this mess! I agree that, in this situation, I would risk the $250 too.

    Good luck!!

  • Oh boy, do I know how difficult it is to find a nice place to rent!!! I just went through this and it's the worst process ever! Our area is so popular for renters that things literally get rented the same day they are posted online.

  • First off, yay and congratulations on your upcoming graduation and new job! That's so exciting.

I had a similar experience when I moved several years ago from Boston to Las Vegas. Since I couldn't go out there to search for an apartment first,

  • Hope it all works out =]  I remember how stressful the transition from school to "real life" was, but just remember everything will work out in the end!

  • Thanks ladies, my parents were able to make the trip down to see it and they said it was pretty nice.  DH is coming around, it's just stressful trying to figure everything out (and he doesn't have a job in Minnesota, so that's adding to his stress).
