It sounds odd to me, but that is what it seems like. I would be happy to hear a better more fixable ideas.
I got a cat from a shelter 8 months ago. They said she was healthy they thought they knew her exact birthday- if they are right, she is 6. They mentioned they had just gotten her "up to weight" after she stopped eating when her owner died.
She ate like a cow, loved canned cat food (would eat half a tuna sized can in one sitting) ate hard cat food fine and showed little interest in any human food.
In late November she started puking foam, stopped eating or drinking all together. She went to the vet 6 times in two weeks and they found no reason for her action. They ended up filling her up with that chalky stuff so they can find a block in the an X-ray. They didn't find a block, but a couple days after she started eating and drinking again. She never ate as much, but gained some weight back. Last month I noticed she wasnt eating much again.
She has no symptoms this time, she will eat just very very little. She drinks water, is using her box, will groom herself . She hasn't puked but she is furry bones. Vets concerned about weight but said nothing is wrong with blood work. She wants to monitor but hard to justify bringing her back every few days when she doesn't have ideas and no symptoms to treat ( last time they gave her anti nausea meds). It was $1,200 in vet bills to monitor her last time and there best guess (because of the lack of poop) was she ate something not food that needed to pass.
She will eat, she licks the gell part off the canned food (we tired new brands too) but nothing like she used to. She will eat crunchy Temptation treats (maybe 10 a couple times a day) small amounts of human quality chicken (maybe a tablespoon), milk, and tuna if it is floating in tuna water. Tried things like cream of chicken soup, thicker beef broths from soups, chunky wet cat food, other non-chicken meats....nothing. She seems lack luster, like a much older cat but I am sure that is weakness from lack of nutrition. She will come when she hears a can open every once in a while, but normally we have to set her right in front of the food so she will eat.
Re: Can cats be anorexic?
check her thyroid
Did the vet check her teeth?! A dental problem causing pain could be the cause of her disinterest in food.
The anorexia is definitely a physiological symptom of something, not a pathological one. It's possible she is still feeling nauseated after
