I just got back into running using C25K. As I've increased my speed and time, I'm getting terrible shin splints. I've started stretching more and bought new sneakers as mine were over a year old. I'll give myself 2-3 days off if my legs are sore. Any suggestions for avoiding them? TIA!

The main cause of shin splints is overuse, so it stands to reason that the best way to avoid them is to rest. 2-3 days between runs is good. Also, don't do too much too fast. You shouldn't add more than 10% to your distance each week and shouldn't try
