The argument is that we have laws but they aren't enforced sufficiently. So what is the point of additional laws that will continue to be broken and not prosecuted?

And isn't it "pure conjecture" to say the opposite too? I.e. that the laws won't work? We won't know for sure unless we try.
So then are you saying it's an absolute that gun control isn't effective? If so, I disagree. There are plenty of places with tight gun control and no significant mass shootings (japan, for example).
