So my Ph.D. advisor finally agreed to let me book our honeymoon to Italy! We're planning on going either at the very end of Sept or in the middle of Oct...either way we'll be there for our 1st anniversary (10/12).
I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on the 2 different trip options available. We're going with Perillo tours and then staying a few extra days with my family (outside of Naples). Both trips are the same number of days and the same cities (Milan, Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Rome, with a few small side trips when we're traveling to each city)
Option A: Starts in Milan and ends in Rome (we would spend time with my family at the end after the tour is done). All breakfasts are included as well as a wine tasting in Tuscany. NO dinners are included. This option is $1,000 cheaper than option B.
Option B: Starts in Rome and ends in Milan (we would spend time with my family in the beginning before the tour starts). All breakfasts are included, the wine tasting in Tuscany, and 9 dinners. Basically, you're on your own for 1 dinner in each of the cities. This option is $1,000 more than option A.
DH and I are trying to figure out if spending the $1000 more to get 9 dinners is worth it. It works out to about $56 per dinner per person. Now, that sounds like a lot for dinner, but we're also trying to take into account the fact that the Euro is worth 30-40% more than the $ (so everything is 30-40% more there). Plus, there's also the language barrier (I understand only a very little bit of Italian) and added stress of trying to find something for dinner each night.
The pro's of doing all the dinners on our own are that this is our honeymoon and we'd be eating most dinners with a group of people. We're not antisocial, but I don't know that I'm going to want to talk to people I don't know at dinner when I really just want to spend time with the husband.
So, what would you do? Spend $1000 more to get 9 dinners included and not have to worry about the exchange rate and finding a place to eat most nights, but have to eat with our group on those 9 nights....or....save $1000 and spend it on meals on our own, but have to find places to eat on our own and have to think about the exchange rate.
Re: Booking our Honeymoon...Finally! Long...
Sounds wonderful. DH and I went to Italy for our honeymoon last fall. We were there from 10/22 until 11/3. We were supposed to leave on 10/30, but Hurricane Sandy hit and the Philly and Pittsburgh airports were closed, and we were fly
Yeah...I think it's going to come down to which dates we can get cheaper flights for. Also, I emailed my family in Italy to see which dates work best for them too (the dates we would be visiting them are only a few days off from each other, so it's not
I'd prefer option A. DH and I are more of the adventurous types when it comes to traveling and we like to do some exploring on our own. Also, I'm pretty picky so I'd be worried that the dinner spots they chose, I wouldn't like (for example,
I actually think we're going to go with Option B. DH talked to his boss, and the dates of trip B work out better for his work schedule. It also works out a bit better for me too.
We will still have 5 dinners on our own (about 1 dinner in each cit
I know that you already made your choice, but here are my two cents. Most restaurants in big cities have an english version of the menu available. Especially if you are near tourist attractions.
I just bought an $8 Italian phra
LOL...I'm with you on the tripe..I think it's absolutely disgusting!
We booked our trip last night!!!
We did choose the trip with the 9 meals included, mostly because the timing worked out better for both DH and I. I don't think it'll be un
