alternative types of birth control

Hey girls, I need some help with alternative types of birth control. I have to stop the pill so we need something to keep from getting preggo...condoms are no fun, any other suggestions?? TIA R

Re: alternative types of birth control

  • There are many:

Diaphragm, the sponge, natural family planning, vaginal suppositories and foam, vaginal film, IUD.

Do research via the web and your doc's guidance and see which one is best for you. GL.
  • I use the FAM method. I really like it. . Now, I just take my temp in the morning and abstain or use condoms during times that I am fertile.
  • FAM and Pull and Pray ;-)
  • Do you have a medical reason you have to stop the pill? That will affect some of your options. I can't take it due to blood clotting issues, which I didn't know until after my pg losses. Anyway with my latex allergy that only left paragaurd and non latex condoms, we went with condoms.

I would not pull and pray or use the FAM method, it only takes one time and off the pill you will not be able to predict ovulation as easily. You'd want to use condoms for a few months while tracking things. Unless kids are an option this is not a good option.

  • Get a copy of taking charge or your fertility. a great book for FAM or TTC or TTA. Also, Consider an IUD. Mirena has a low level of hormones. Can stay in for 5 years and has the added benefit of stopping your periods after a few months of occasional spotting because it thins the lining of your uterus.
  • IUD is a good option if you are not planning on TTC for a few years

  • I use Implannon and I can't complain.

Its about the size of a matchstick and is inserted into your upper arm by your OB during a regular office visit.

From my understanding it works similar to the IUD, but instead of being inserted nnear your uterus, it is in your arm.
