I don't get it. Liberals care about the welfare of the people (schools, civil rights, housing, health), to the point where our hearts bleed for those who are disadvantaged. I don't understand how that qualifies as elitist to some. Seems just the opposite to me.
I love this quote from JFK: "If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people ? their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties ? someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." Re: Why do some people refer to liberals as "elitist"?
From my discussions with my DH, its not the average liberal that is called the elitist.
It is the liberal that proposes and supports programs that, they themselves, will never have to pay into or use.
I think it's a general term that some people use to describe a voting block. Just like many assume that all conservatives "cling to their guns and religion" and are uneducated.
Just like not all conservatives are as above, not all liberals are el
I dislike the JFK quote because the implication is that conservatives don't look ahead, they look behind, they don't care about the people's welfare, etc. You can care deeply about people but not espouse the wanton usage of other people's money t
