Extreme couponing...

I had never watched this show before. I saw two episodes yesterday.

What is up with those stockpiles??  I understand that they are organizing them by expiration date, but come on ~ who is going to be able to use all that salad dressing or cake mixes?

The second show had this 15 yr old girl who was the couponer in her family. This girl was seriously under weight. It was really sad to see her obsession with procuring all this food when clearly she wasn't eating much of it herself.  It just seemed like another manifestation of her control issues, and it was heartbreaking.

The other two adult women I saw had larger families, and I understand if you're cooking a lot that you keep a well stocked pantry, but these stockpiles are way beyond that.

What do you think happens with all of that? Do you think a lot of it goes bad?  I know that a lot of the thrill is getting the items for free, so do you think they don't care if some of it goes bad?

I'm not sure I'll ever watch that show again.

Re: Extreme couponing...

  • Honestly I think a lot of them have a problem, like you said who need 52 cake mix boxes or 100 BBQ sauces. However, I do like those that do it for charity or those in need.

I use coupons however, most of the stores now a days do not even allow yo

  • I've seen it a few times. What I find crazy is the stuff they stockpile doesn't cost very much to begin with. And it's not the best food to put into your body anyway.

  • I coupon and get a lot of stuff for free. But I only get items that my family actually needs. The people on those shows will get things that they have never used before and they never will. I hate going to the store and they are completely out of stock

  • I've seen it a few times and it is just insane! Who needs 20 bottle of tobasco sauce? In one episode I've seen, some younger girl was talking about how she grew up poor and wasn't always sure when her parents would have been able to feed her, so now she s
  • I've watched the show. I also think it's ridiculous when people build these enormous stockpiles when it is unlikely they'll use it all. However I've also seen a few episodes where people build up stockpiles to send care packages to troops overseas, donate
  • I had a previous co-worker who I was FB friends with and she does this.

But, then she posts online asking people if they want to buy the stuff that she bought and cannot use.

It's friggin' ridiculous. What a waste of time and money.</p

  • I've heard the people on the show are encouraged to go over board for the sake of the show.

So when watching, just keep in mind what they're doing on the show may not be what they're doing when not on the show.

  • I never watched the extreme couponing shows, but for about a 6 month period I was a serious couponer. One day I sat down and realized that my husband and I and our one cat was costing about $600 in groceries a month!

  • The people on that show are hoarders.
  • Couponing has become a way of life for many of us in these tough economic times. If too many people abuse coupons, they could drive prices up for everybody. Coupon counterfeiting and other scams are increasing. In the current economy, most of us can ill0-afford to get rid of the savings that coupons help us get. A short term loan can help you pay for your food and your other needs.
