    The plates on my flat iron are smooth as glass, and the burnt on gunk just wipes right off. I'd get a different iron.

  • I saw some solutions on Pinterest about this.  I didn't look at them because my hair is stick straight naturally (ughhhh) but definitely check there.

  • I use a heat protector spray also and am able to clean the plates on my flat iron with just a wet cloth. It's probably build-up from the spray but you should still be able to wipe the surface clean without trouble. Have you used harsh cleaners on it? Coul
  •  I just use my wet towel from the shower to clean it. It doesn't really get dirty at all though, just a little buildup on the edges.

    I don't use a spray, which sounds sticky, I use Moroccan oil in my hair.
