What would you do...

With this ugly fireplace? Removing it isn't an option, which was my first choice, so now I need to figure out what to do with it. My second choice is to paint it but I am unsure of what color to go with. That nasty paneling will be coming down soon and will be replaced with drywall. Our living room is a tan color with a dark green accent wall so my thought was to paint it dark brown, kind of like the wall color, but I'm not sure if that'll be too dark. This area is going to be a 'dining room' with a farmhouse style table in the center of the room. Our kitchen is to the left and patio doors are to the right.

  • I am not much of a home remodeler but does it make sense to change the walls first? That might give you a better idea of how dark you can go with the fireplace.

  • Friends of ours just did an overhaul of their fireplace.  They tore down all the stone and put new stone up.  Painting it is an option too, but if you really hate the stone painting won't make as much of a difference!

  • What's throwing me is the grout color. If you cannot start from square one, I think I would redo the grout in white and then paint the bricks white and then put a mantel on it. I found a website that has some examples. <a href="http://www.homebedazzl
