Curecanti National Recreation Area
We are planning to go to the Crestted Butte wildflower festival this summer and are stopping at Gunnison airport. I read on travel books about the Curecanti national recreation area and wonder if it worth a day or two? How is the Blue Mesa lake like in summer? It is our first time in that part of Colorado, Any information will be appreciated!

Curecanti National Recreation Area is a great place to visit. The area has tons of fishing and hiking. I would recommend staying there at a camp site to get the full experience. While you're there, you should do the boat tour http://www.nps.gov/cure/planyourvisit/boattour.htm
Blue Mesa has been at lower water levels for the last couple of years...typically it can be hot and dry and there are only a small number of trees. Sunscreen is a must.
