Curecanti National Recreation Area

We are planning to go to the Crestted Butte wildflower festival this summer and are stopping at Gunnison airport. I read on travel books about the Curecanti national recreation area and wonder if it worth a day or two? How is the Blue Mesa lake like in summer? It is our first time in that part of Colorado,  Any information will be appreciated!

Re: Curecanti National Recreation Area

  • Curecanti National Recreation Area is a great place to visit. The area has tons of fishing and hiking. I would recommend staying there at a camp site to get the full experience. While you're there, you should do the boat tour http://www.nps.gov/cure/planyourvisit/boattour.htm

Blue Mesa has been at lower water levels for the last couple of years...typically it can be hot and dry and there are only a small number of trees. Sunscreen is a must.
