cocktail attire???

My husband and I have been invited to a party and on the rsvp it says 'cocktail attire' The only thing that pops in my head is the scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts is sitting in the bar waiting on Richard Gere is her black dress. My attire every day is my work uniform, or jeans/shorts and t-shirt with some flip flops so my closet does not have a ton of options! Any ideas ladies? I need some help! :-)

Re: cocktail attire???

  • My H and I have been to a lot of parties that say "cocktail attire" on the invitation. What I've seen is a lot of short "cocktail" dresses, little black dresses and high heels for the ladies, and suit and tie for the guys. Not what I would call Black-tie, but defiantly formal attire.

  • I'd choose a solid color dress (personally I would go for a nice color since it's Spring), heels, and either a statement necklace or great drop earring, and a simple clutch.

  • Thanks ladies! The event is a dinner/dancing party...but we do have a few other events coming up as well such as our 5 year anniversary, graduations and comfirmations. I think I will try to go for a simple black dress with the statement necklace, great heels and clutch, that way I could do some other stuff to the dress for these other events.

Did some looking yesterday but found nothing that really said buy me! Could be that I was trying to hurry between job one and job two and by the time I got off of work everything was getting ready to close. Looks like Friday I have to find one and do some serious shopping! Thanks again ladies!

  • You can try any one piece dress as cocktail attire with the matching clutch  if you like any different style then you can go for animal print on  your dress as it is the latest trend now everywhere.
  • Thanks again ladies! I ended up finding a dress on Friday night at Macys on the clearance rack for only $20!!! It was black with a little bit of a gather on the side. Paired I with some great black heels, my husband actually found me a small clutch and had a silver wrap to go with it to give it some shine since I never had a chance to go out and find a statement necklace. Hoping to wear it next weekend for our 5 year anniversary as well.

       Thanks again ladies!Big Smile

  • I think every girl or woman should have a cocktail dress .It is a right of being a woman. Er,what kind of party are you going to attend? And what style do you like? Do you like a pleats cocktail dress: http://www.dreamy-dress.com/pleats-cocktail-dresses-c63_4_60 ?

Or you can go topshop for a look, there are many dresses there.
