Flea Control

kierstakiersta member

Hello! I'm sort of new here. I read the forums often, but this is my first post.

We have a 10 month old kitty boy. He weighs 10 lbs, has switched over to all adult food, and he's up to date on all shots. He's primarily an indoor cat and we never let him outside unless he is on his harness with supervision.

The cat has never had fleas before, but our vet told us that if he is ever taken outside he needs to be on flea meds. I'm concerned about using drops on him because I've heard that they can have some nasty side effects. There are so many different options, drops, powders, sprays, etc. I'm not sure what we should be using or if its necessary because he is almost entirely an indoor kitty and we live in a big city. Any suggestions? Which brands do you prefer?

Thanks!

  • Garlic is highly toxic to dogs and cats I do not recommend it for any type of treatment in pets. Also it really isn't effective.

The safest most effective treatments available are probably the topical t

  • Hey Keirsta!

My cat who never ever goes outdoors, not even on a harness, got fleas this past fall. It was an awful experience, not just because my apartment had to be flea bombed and we had to do laundry like, every 3 days, but &nbsp

  • If you live in a highly flea-prone area, it's definitely recommended to at least treat your kitty spring through fall. I need to order meds for our kitties now that the weather is warming up. We didn't have any infestations last summer, but I was battl

  • We use Advantage and it works great.  I have heard Frontline is just as good.  But whatever you do, do NOT take the garlic advice from the PP!!!!
  • Thanks ladies! I ended up calling the vet and she recommended Advantage Multi or Revolution. I think we'll probably go with Advantage because I've heard more about it. I'll let you know how it goes!

  • Comfortis for cats. It's a pill. Our dog use it and we never have flea issues.
