Gift ideas?

I posted this over on the Knot but wanted to get some ideas from some of you since you're most likely already married....

A friend of mine is getting married.  We lost touch but recently reconnected.  I'd like to get her something, around the $50 range.

Her registry is nearly complete.  I want to avoid picture frames, gift cards, etc as I feel they are kind of boring and thoughtless.

I was thinking about a wine decanter.  Good idea?  And other novelties/interesting gifts come to mind?

 Thanks

Re: Gift ideas?

  • We definitely needed some picture frames for our wedding pictures, so I don't know if I'd agree that they're thoughtless. However, if they didn't register for them, they may have other plans and/or what you get them may not be their style.

  • What about a gift card for some paint?

I am sure they will be redoing the walls.

Why not ask her what she needs? Then go from there.:)
  • If they drink wine, then a decanter is excellent!  I'd pair it with a bottle of wine.

Do you know the area they live in?  You could get them a gift certificate to go out to dinner.

  • Thanks everyone!  I did decide on a beautiful decanter.  She registered for wine glasses, and I checked with a mutual friend and she said it was a good idea.  I would have paired with a bottle of wine, but I had the gift shipped.

  • You could always get a really nice set of wine glasses or champagne flutes for $50.00.   Here are a few links just to give you some ideas.
