Any bad salon experiences with blond highlights on brown hair

Ok. I've been seeing a colorist who has won tons of awards. She does an amazing job but she is really $$. I have "mousy" brown hair and she puts in a ton of highlights and lowlights to make it blond. I'm thinking about switching to someone a friend goes to. I like her hair - she has the same brown hair as I do.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with a colorist doing something similar? My only other experience was when I dyed it a different shade of brown and it always looked a tad red. TIA!!!!

  • I'm in the boat of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" type thing.  How much of a price difference IS there?

Another thing to keep in mind--while your hair may look good going to the new/less expensive colorist, they won't be able to replicate what the other stylist was doing.  They can try as hard as they want, but different people do different things and get different results.  Not saying it will look bad, but there is a good possibility it will look different and there will be an adjustment period for you to realize it's different but not bad.

  • Bad salon experiences?  hell yes!  That is why price is no longer a consideration for me.  I FINALLY found someone who owns his own small salon, is talented and passionate about hair.  I literally walk in and when he asks me what I want to do I tell him "whatever you think is best" because he is THAT good.  HE is the expert, he knows best, I just stay out of his way and let him work his majic.  His prices are competative but not inexpensive.  Would I switch to save 25% or even 50%?  Nope!
