I'm thinking of looking into becoming a realtor.
My DH can support our family easily. I am currently a SAHM with a degree in Communication and many years of advertising and pharmaceutical sales experience.
I know money doesn't come easily and there are up and down times.
I was wondering how the work/life balance truly is....
Whatever income I can make would truly be extra, but I'd love to make extra money.
I do have an acquaintance that I can talk to that just started in my area.
The group I'd potentially join is less than one mile away from my house and is the top selling company in my area.
I have all of the "pros" listed but wondering what the cons really are.
2013 reports say that realtors are the #1 satisfied careers...
Re: Becoming a realtor?
The biggest con would be the unpredictable nature of the income & the long lead time between obtaining a listing & getting paid.
The business is more time consuming & expensive than you think. First you have to get a license; many people take a review course. You have to pay to renew the license periodically. Then you have to advertise, network & get your name out there. You have to buy business cards.
In the mornings you have caravans -- where you go with the other realtors in the area to check out the new listings. As a baby agent, you will be asked (& hopefully paid) by more senior, busier agents to sit in their open houses & collect info from the folks who come through. You have to be available all day on weekends because that is when most people are available to see new homes.
