How do you organize your recipes?

In an effort to get this board a little more active...how do you organize your recipes?  Cookbooks?  Online?  Box?  Binder?

I have a super small kitchen, so I actually have a cute bamboo box full of my cookbooks in my living room.  But, I mostly use a binder that I have collected recipes from food magazines I get (Food Network, Cooking Light, etc.)  When I'm meal planning I mostly go to that binder.  I also have a box with recipes from my mother, plus some I've created myself.  I think I'd like to merge those into the binder eventually....but I don't know if I have room!  Not to mention my pinterest boards...ugh I have recipes everywhere!

Give me some different ideas ladies!

Re: How do you organize your recipes?

  • Mine are all over the place, too!  I have cookbooks in my kitchen island.  I also have a recipe box with recipe cards in there as well.  I have multiple boards on Pinterest by recipe category.  I had a bunch saved in Google Reader, but that is going away soon, so I moved to Feedly to follow blogs in.  I'm trying not to save them in Feedly, just to pin them from Feedly to Pinterest (so I'll have one less place to look).

I only subscribe to two magazines- Cooking Light and Better Homes & Gardens. If I find something there, I now go to their websites and pin the recipes, instead of cutting out the recipe from the magazines.  Same thing if I see one in the weekly ads in the newspaper- I try to find them online instead.  I find once I cut recipes out of magazines/newspapers, I don't tend to ever make them, I usually just stick them somewhere and forget about them.

I also have a binder from way back when, before Pinterest, with many recipes in it.  I keep it with my cookbooks.  I also have another binder I started to put together a long time ago, I was printing my favorite recipes on nice paper to put in there but have gotten away from that.  And, I have my blog with recipes.

I really didn't realize until I typed this out just how many places I keep my recipes!!   When I meal plan, my main sources are Pinterest and former meal plans.  I make a calendar in Word for each month (I stopped writing it out because I tend to make many changes throughout the month).  After that month is over, I print it out for a reference.

So I'm basically of no help to you!  My recipes are all over too! Lol!

I like this idea.  I just meal planned this weekend for the next 2 1/2-3 weeks.   I like the idea of saving it and then printing it out for a reference.

As for my recipes - I have some cookbooks in a cabinet in the kitchen.  I have pinterest boards as well.  But to organize my recipes, I copy and paste all online recipes to onenote and have that organized.

  • i keep my cookbooks in a cabinet in my kitchen, along with two binders (a dessert binder and an everything else binder).  I have a small recipe box that was a bridal shower gift that i keep on the counter.  I also keep a bunch of recipes on pinterest (if i make and like them, i print it for the binder).

when i do my meal planning- i usually refer to the binders, the recipe box and pinterest.  once in a while i will peek through the cookbooks.

  • Once I've made it and love it, I type it up and print it off and keep it in a 3 ring binder in a sheet protector, sorted by meal course.  It doesn't go in the binder unless it's the greatest thing ever. It's a high bar to make it in the notebook.

My pinterest boards are sorted pretty well - weeknight cooking, WW, fancy entertaining recipes by season, brunch.

I have too many cookbooks, but I don't generally cook out of them, IYKWIM.  I'll make the first recipe out of there, but once it's tried and true, it goes in the binder.  So cookbooks are really more of a reference thing for me.

  • i have a 2 shelf bookshelf at the end of the hallway leading to the kitchen for cookbooks. i have 5 binders separated into sections: beef, chicken, pies, cakes etc...most of those are ones that ive taken out of magazines or online or from books. those are 'to make'. i have some on pinterest. the ones i have made and lvoed are either on my blog or in another binder.

I like the 5 binders idea...maybe I just need to get more binders! lol.
