Ideas for a small, shaded bed under bay window
I have a 12'x1' bed under my front bay window that I have been contemplating for 2 years now. The area is always shaded and there is only about 15" before it hits the bay window. Currently all there are wood chips there. Any ideas are welcome.

Depending on where you live, you could plant lilly of the valley (they love shade and are wonderful to pick). They only bloom once for a little while in early spring here in Michigan, but they have great green leaves all year round.
If you don't want a flowering plant, look into burning bush, which grows like crazy, has green leaves in spring then switches to orange and red in the fall. You will have to trim it to size, I have 2 in front of my porch that I trim annually to keep them shorter.
Also, check out some nurseries in your area. They are excellent at helping you decide on something that will grow in your area and stay under 15" tall. I also find that when I go to look for plants, the information on the tabs inserted into the dirt is pretty accurate. If it says shade or partial shade, you should be ok, and they also tell you how tall things grow, how far apart to plant, etc.
Good luck.
Thanks for the recs! LOVE that burning bush, so pretty. I am in Chicago, so also the midwest.
I asked at the nursery last year and they recommended hydrangeas, but they would grow too high.. I don't think she understand the space I was describing.
