Help me pick house paint colors please.

We are giving the house a facelift.  The new roof will go on next week and will be "Colonial Slate" that is a pretty medium gray with specks of red here and there.  I think it will be pretty versatile in terms of picking paint colors.

We were thinking light gray stucco and siding with darker gray shutters and pilasters.  Would the light gray be too much?  Should we just do white?  We were hoping to have enough money leftover for a new door with a darker wood color or a fun color like red or green.

WWYD?  We will be putting it on the market in 2-5 years.

  • I don't think the grey will be too much... I absolutely love the color grey so I'm a tad bit biased, but to be honest, I'd do it. I'd either do a dark wooden door or red, but I don't think I'd like green... It would depend on the shade of green!

  • I agree with the colors you described. I personally like a door that "pops" color instead of plainer wood, but that's a personal choice.

I could also see the white instead of grey, however, it's much harder to keep clean and shows the water drainage from windows & roof easily, and can occasionally stain.

I came across a photo of a door painted in SW Pickle.  The house had gray siding and white trim.  I thought it was a nice combo.  My fear is that I would be in the minority though....

  • I'll have to look it up. I've never been a fan of green but I'm sure with the right shade, I'd love it on a door. I'm very picky.

If you like it and think it looks good, go for it :)
