They are here! JulieJewels update
She asked me to update you all again...
the babies are here!
From JJ-
Finn
Alistair and Isla Evangeline joined us in the world early this morning
at 4:54 and 4:56am at 27w, 2 days. Ryan and I are ecstatic to be parents
although much sooner than we could have ever expected. But they are
absolutely perfect in every way and we are overjoyed with our 2lb baby
boy and 1lb, 14oz baby girl! They are getting lots of love in the NICU
and we think they are pretty cute :-)
She also let me know that she is still on bedrest UGH Mag... and that she had a c-section so she is recovering. She is in good spirits though!
I on the other hand am sitting here crying at my desk like a loon!!!!
Our little hippo was as impatient as mom!
Hoping for a full 40 weeks!!
Re: They are here! JulieJewels update
You might be crying while my reaction to her FB announcement was "holy $hit!" (yup, I'm at work. yup, I said it pretty freaking loud!).
Congratulations again Jewels! While I knew this was a very possible outcome, it still took me by complete surprise. T&Ps to Finn and Isla while they're in the NICU and a wish for a fast recovery to you!
haha believe me, that was my first thought too.. I just did my son's NICU photobook last night and I think my emotions are really raw from that. Poor JJ is dealing with my annoying advice overload... I've made myself stop though
This is not the update I expected, but I'm so glad everyone is doing well!
I hope their NICU stay is uneventful!
My little nuggets
I really suck at staying pregnant
wow! Congrats! Praying for a quick recovery and a as smooth as can be expected NICU stay.
I love the names!
#1 12.11.11
#2 10.23.13 EDD
I kind of had a feeling they were going to be making an appearance by this weekend. Wishing you lots of prayers and love for your recovery and the road ahead xoxo
And I am just curious and don't need to ask J this but what is the reason for the mag and why is she still on it after birth?

i was on mag for 24 hrs after A&C arrived. It's bc my blood pressure wouldn't go down. Probably the same situation here if I had to guess.
My little nuggets
Magnesium sulfate is used in pregnant women who are showing signs of pre eclampsia. It is used to prevent seizures (pre-e turns into eclampsia when a seizure occurs.) It also helps lower Bp, as one of the signs of pre e is high Bp.
The only cure for pre e is delivery but women can still have pre e after delivery as well so they'll continue the mag to prevent the seizures until other signs and symptoms start to go away. There are a whole mess of other s/s that accompany pre e like Bp creep, pain in right upper ribs, fast increase in swelling, less peeing, headache, vision change and seeing spots, and other things that show up in labs.
Ok got it, thank you for the info! And JJ sorry for hijiacking your post with my curiousity!

I'm sad the babies were born so early but happy that Julie and her dh are now parents. Congratulations Jewels! I know you weren't expecting it to go this way but I wish you strength for the new road you guys are on.
Let us know if there's anything we can do.
It's a good question. A lot of pregnant ladies end up on it so it's good for people to know about it. It's a no shiit drug, too. Big risk for depression of breathing. Ok I'm done now too...
The dude and I were joking by the time I was discharged about how many times I was asked if I had headaches, blurry vision, pain in my upper right side, etc. I'm sure Julie is now being asked a billion times.

every 30 seconds!!!!!!
I totally agree with the suggestions Tiana made. I'd also recommend that if you are going to BF (not sure if you are) making sure you ask questions and ask for a LC that is familiar with the NICU and preemies and your special needs. If not you can ignore this. I just know i got some not so great advice that didn't apply to me and looking back I wish I had spoken up.
Haha. Yup, my sis in law just had her first baby last week and I was asking her that allll the time- and she didn't even have pre e.
Did you feel like shiit on the mag? I never heard it but I've heard it gives flu like symptoms...
Ditto all this too. And if your BP is high from pre-e, don't expect it to come down right away. My sisters friend was frantic because no one in the hospital explained to her that it's not magic that you give birth and then pre-eclampsia just goes away. I was on BP meds for over a month after birth. It didn't go back to normal until my 6 week post checkup, and even then my new "normal" is higher than pre pregnancy.
And LCs that are not familiar with the NICU and preemies are pretty much useless if you are in the NICU with a preemie. I had to throw out much of what mine said, and I'm upset that I didn't speak to one from the NICU until over a week after Emma's birth...I think that's partially to blame for my supply problems. No one took the time to get me established pumping and I was so unprepared for the early birth that I didn't even know to advocate for myself and E.
Oh and of course as I've said elsewhere. I love you, I'm so excited for you and Ryan to be parents. And your family (of 4!) is in my prayers.
I wanted to die on mag. I felt like crap. Super hot, very lethargic like the flu, nauseous, and my limbs felt like they weighed about 100 pounds each.
I got a bolus of it first and within minutes I was throwing up. My sister was talking to me and I was just staring at her and hardly listening and then grabbed my bucket. After the initial reaction I was just exhausted and slept a lot. I equate it to being in a coma physically but being awake. As soon as they unhooked me from it they brought me to meet Andrew and as soon as he was in my arms I felt light headed and like I was going to pass out. That drug seriously sucks.
Also I was on bp meds for 4 weeks after until it finally went down again
My little nuggets
The mag actually didn't bother me at all... I'm strange but I am still convinced I didn't have pre-e either. I didn't have ANY of the symptoms other than high blood pressure and seeing spots... i do have a history of some brain stuff so I think they were worried about that.
The first LC I had told me not to be in a rush to start pumping and to just relax. Ummm the only thing in the world that I could do for my son from my hospital bed while attached to mag was to pump so let me pump! Then my milk came in and a LC told me to keep going every two hours for 20 minutes. I ended up with the most insane oversupply that DS ... I know, not the worst problem but it was really painful!
