C25K ladies

Just curious, do (did) you do the program by time or milage? Emma's post below made me think of it. I've seen a few things that do one or other or list either as option.  My app specifically does time.

And what was roughly your pace when starting and has it improved? Since my app does time it has me do 5 min warmup and 5 min cool down with 20 mins of the "program". Based on my pace so far I never even hit 5K. So I guess if I was doing distance instead of time I'd be running further/longer. Based on I think the official one they seem to assume a 10 min/mile pace since it says for example jog 20 mins or 2 miles. I'm not that fast yet, haha!

Anyways just curious!

  • I do it by time, and honestly, I don't pay too much attention to the milage or my pace.  At this point, I feel like I'm such a beginner that if I don't collapse on the side of the road in a fit of my own tears, I'm accomplishing something.

I have started running the Nike app simultaneously, but I don't think the stats it's giving me are too accurate as to how far I'm actually running, since it's also pacing me when I'm walking in between, you know?

ha! Love your response!! I feel like that a lot too! Anyway I don't collapse on the side of the road is a good day!

yeah I use the Nike app as well and it is just obviously the overall time so I'm not sure my pace if I were to run the whole way.

I really like to know how I'm doing during the whole thing though. It keeps me motivated. My last run near the end it gave me my current pace and it really motivated me to push through the last bit and beat my usual pace. I was really struggling with that last run but when I heard that my pace was still better than usual it made me feel a little better about it all! I guess it could work the opposite way too unfortunately but so far it is a motivator for me and I'm just dorky and like seeing how far I've run total that week, etc

  • I go by the time as well. I'm frightened of how long it would take me if I went by distance:P

Mine goes by time also... I didn't quite make it to week 8 by time my first 5K came to be. I was impressed when I got up to running 20 mins at a time . At most I was getting to about 2 miles at that time. I need to go back and restart as I fell off the wagon for awhile.
  • I just did it by time.  I'm still not even at a 10 min mile pace!  When I started C210k, I would usually be at 2-2.5 miles when I was done with a work out, so I would sometimes continue walking/light jogging to hit the 3.1 mark.  I wouldn't worry too much about distance/pace until you complete the program and become comfortable as a runner.  (that's the approach that worked for me, at least.)
