We just bought a house that has a veggie garden, and I really want to keep it up. How do I find out which veggies grow the best with my location, best time to plant? Also, I need to figure out a way to keep the Deer, and Bears out!

Re: New to Gardening
Hiya! I'm relatively new at it as well. We've had a veggie garden for a few years now, and the best part is experimenting and seeing how tings work out.
As long as you're past the 'last frost' date of your region and the nights are consistently above 4 degrees (celcius), you should be good to go. I find it easier to start with seedlings in cell packs rather than trying to grow from seed.
Try anything that you like! Tomatoes are easy and very rewarding, especially cherry tomatoes. Beans and peas are easy too. We're trying brocoli and cawliflower this year. We'll see what happens!
Most importantly make sure the soil is good. You can always add in some new top soil and compost to the existing soil. Give it a good rake before you plant to mix in the new soil
Yes, Bears
The lady had planted flowers, and a few veggies in this spot last year, however hardly any of her crops survived the weather this year. We had unusually warm winter, and a very cold, and snowy spring.
Our Garden would be at an elevation of 8,400 feet above sea level.
Its possible that she had planted annuals (flowers that only last one season). Perennials come back every year.
Most if not all veggies are annuals, so you have to plant them again in the spring.
8400 feet? Wow! I can see why you have to deal with bears! Maybe avoid fruiting plants.
We too just moved to a new house and are starting a garden. We haven't planted yet but in our condo we had self watering planters. Some vegetables I think are somewhat easy to grow: tomatoes and peppers, especially hot peppers. From past experience I would also say that underground items also should be easy as you don't have to worry too much about animals.
To keep the animals away, we tried lots of tricks when growing up. Bought contraptions where you soak cotton balls, cover them and put them around the garden, didn't work. Sprayed stuff around the yard, didn't work. etc. In the end the bars of irish springs soap worked best. Not the prettiest but should work!
