Hello! I am 27 years old and have a family history of breast cancer. my grandmother had cervical cancer when she was 33 which spread and at 40 was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer which took her life...
I found a lump in my right breast about a month ago... I called my Gyno who scheduled me an ultrasound (apparently bc of my age). I had the appt in which they found the lump but could not give me an explanation of what it is or if its cancerous. The radiologist said something along the lines of cysts and told me to watch it and come back in 6 months, meanwhile I have not heard any news from my Gynos office. Should I have heard from them with my doctors opinion? Obviously if it would turn out to be cancerous, I do not want it to grow MORE over the next 6 months.
I am HIGHLY stressed and any and all advice would be much appreciated
Re: Breast Cancer at 27?
I actually have a similar family history with cancer. When I was about 25, I was at my annual exam, and they found a small lump. Same thing... they sent me for an ultrasound and they weren't very concerned. I can tell you, I WAS very concerned. However, it ended up resolving itself at some point before my 6-month checkup. She didn't even feel it the next time I went back. I am now 29 and haven't had any lumps/bumps since.
The good news is that it was found early and the results weren't alarming enough to the doctor/radiologist to want to further investigate it. I can definitely sympathize, but I really would try to not worry about it too much. Continue to try to take good care of yourself, eat healthy, and not stress out too much. Good luck!
