Am I the only one? (Possible UO)
I cannot be the only person who doesn't really feel anything about marriage equality being passed in Delaware. We had the best civil union law in the country, why did marriage have to pass 13 months later?
Don't get me wrong, I have gay friends who have had a civil union performed since that law went into effect. I also know a couple who was dead set on it being a legal marriage. As far as I can tell [based on incredibly quick research about five minutes ago] the difference is recognition on a federal level/filling out paperwork/etc?
Re: Am I the only one? (Possible UO)
I understand that they're not recognized in every state. I don't know. I don't really have any solid thoughts on it, and what people do with their lives doesn't mean one thing or another to me. It's like the government trying to tell me what I can and can't do with my body. I just wonder why they have to be all up in it.
Does that even make sense?
I brought this up because we were talking about it at work & I seem to be the only person who feels like this. The people here are either very for it or very against it.

This. There is over 1,000 places in Federal Law that is based on marrital status. I know the military is having issues since DADT got thrown out, esp since they move so much. Some states they have rights, some they don't.
http://www.now.org/issues/marriage/marriage_unions.html this was helpful is seeing the differences.
I'm confused. In the first paragraph it seems like you just want gov't to butt out... but in the second you don't have a side and that seems odd to you.
I'm confusing myself, honestly. I just said this to a friend: The government needs to stay he heck out of marriage, & IDK, LEAD THE COUNTRY.
So, my opinion is that they need to butt out. But at work, it's people who are very, very for gay marriage or very, very against gay marriage. There is no in between. I'm the only one who feels like we shouldn't even be debating it because frankly it's no one's business.

The government is telling gay people what they can or can't do by not allowing same sex marriage. If they legalize it they can choose whether they want to or not. As of now they don't get a choice.
Marriage isn't just a church thing now. Marriage is a state/federal function now since there are laws in place that refer back to marriage status. You have a group of people that do not have the same rights as others because of this. Getting married and seeing all the stuff you "gain" with that piece of paper openned my eyes.
