Re: question for a vet or a tech

  • Tulips can be toxic, the bulb is the most toxic part, but all parts of the plant have some toxin in them.  Whether it was toxic depends on the size of the dog, the quantity eaten and even how long ago it was cut can effect the concentration of toxins.  This toxic can cause seizure and heart arrhythmia so its not something to take lightly.

The best people to call are the veterinary toxicologists at the ASPCA poison control. (888) 426-4435. There is a $65 charge, but they can tell you if the quantity ingested is enough to require you to go to the vet. And if the recommend you seeing a vet, they will give you a case number so the veterinarian can consult with the toxicologist about the appropriate way to handle the toxicity.

That's kinda crazy that there is a charge for the animal poison control line...if they charged for the normal, human poison line there'd be an uproar! I work in a hospital (the human kind) and we see a lot of OD's...we call position control all the freaking time! What a crock!

    Sorry to highjack your post!

  • human poison control is supported by our government, while the animal poison control is not.  The ASPCA poison control is staffed by veterinary toxicologist around the clock to answer questions.  They have to get paid somehow.
