I have been an SLP in a school district for the past two years - different school districts with different 403b investment companies. I am changing jobs again this fall, due to my husband's relocation, and have a few questions about moving/transferring funds. The new company that I will be working for is a private rehab group, and their investment opportunities are through a 401k.
Is it best to consolidate these accounts and into a Roth IRA, or carry them over into the 401k? Or is there an even better place to put them? I would appreciate any ideas! I've been trying to start planning for the future, and want to make sure that I'm making wise decisions. Thanks so much.
Re: 403b/transfer questions
Hi!
What I would probably do would be to rollover the existing two 403b plans into an IRA. Many MMers here, including myself, like Vanguard (it has little or no fees and is overall a good company that has performed well). Depending on your age and how far away your ideal retirement is, Vanguard has several mutual funds that plan accordingly based on aggressivness over time. People there can guide you. Also, they have some tools on their website.
Then, I would start up at your new job using your new 401k plan and make contributions there for at least as much as the employer matches (if they do).
