cranston elementary school ??

About 2 months ago I had DD's kindergarten registration. We got to the school rang the buzzer and they just let us in. They never asked who we were or what we were there for. There is no camera so they couldn't see who it was. During the registration process we meet with the principal and I had asked her if that is normally what they do when someone rings the buzzer and she said No they should have asked who it was and what we were there for. She mentioned the secretary was new and that day it was every busy with the registartions and stuff but it was no excuse for her not to ask. She said she would talk to the office staff. Well Monday I had to take DD back there bc the child outreach program ended up getting changed locations and it was at the school. So we get there and I ring the buzzer and they just unlocked the doors again no one asked who we were and what we were there for. It kind of makes me nervous that they don't ask anything and just unlock the doors. Everything going on lately this just makes me so nervous. Would you ladies contact the school and let them know my concern? I don't want to be a PIA about this but this stuff just worries me.

I don't think it's wrong to call and ask about it. They aren't following their own procedures.

I would also try not to worry too much about it, though. Newtown was scary, but the chances of anything like that ever happening again are so so small. If you stress too much about every possible way your DD could get hurt, you'll drive yourself crazy.

I would call or write and let them know about it. After all, you were informed that this was their policy, and you've now experienced two separate occasions where you were simply buzzed in without any further inquiry.

I had a similar experience at DS's K registration & outreach appointment.  Even though I could not see one, I read somewhere that there is a camera so I assume they saw me and DS, and since it was the day for registration and then for Outreach, they knew that there would be people that they didn't know.  It's more than what was in place when DD went there - anyone could walk in at any time.
