I got the Sephora by OPI Gelshine at-home system - love it! If you are halfway decent at painting your nails and love a gel mani, highly recommend!
I am digging a lot of the nail art designs I've seen on pinterest. I would really like to learn how to do some of them, but I know if I free hand it they will be extremely disappointing and amateur. I thought about trying some of these new nail wraps or decals that seem so popular, but using them with the gelshine topcoat. Has anyone experimented with anything like this?
I am all about making the mani last, so any ideas or tips for working new stuff in with the gel polish is a plus!
Re: Gel Polish & Nail Wraps
Have you ever tried OMG Nail Polish Strips? www.omgnailstrips.com I just started using them about a month ago. I prefer them over the other brands of nail polish strips I have tried because they are easier for me to apply. They have a special stretch to them that helps them form to my nails (they are very curvy). I wonder if they can be used with a gel topcoat.
SMitty1985 - What kind of shape do your nails have to be in to make those strips work? My cuticles aren't terrible, but I'm concerned that it might not last. I used to do Shellac all the time (loved it!), but we are budgeting for a house so I've cut nail salons out for the time being.
i stopped getting my nails done when we bought a house too. i bought the nailsational kit then switched over to the opi as well. i've tried the strips as well and not been impressed. i need something that has lasting power!
anyone looking to get the long lasting gel at an "at home" price i would recommend to go to sally's beauty supply (or another beauty supply store in your area) and buy the uv kit and the polish that goes along with it. this is what the salons use and it's the same exact process as the sephora/opi and cvs/nailsational ones. if you can paint your nails you can apply this!
bottom line: the light is $50 then the polishes are $12. it seems expensive but if you think you're paying $25 for a gel at the salon every 2 weeks, you've paid for your bottle of polish with just a single hand being painted.
UPDATE:
I have tried some of the other brands of gel polishes since my OP, and they work just fine mixing with the Sephora by OPI brand base and top coat for anyone interested. I experimented with some of the brands at Sally Beauty (Fingerpaints was one of them) and they apply nicely and last just as long, and are quite a bit cheaper. I got them when they were running a buy 2, get 1 free so I ended up getting 3 for about $25 versus $17 for 1 OPI at Sephora. Still haven't tried the nail wraps though...
Would also love to find a nice matte top coat for the gel system!
