Grilling FAIL

Who's grilling for Memorial Day?!

I'm planning a BBQ with some friends and the family and I'm already prepping for the cook-out!

It's already been decided that I have the opportunity to man the grill this year! I'm pretty excited about it, especially since I'm a fairly new griller and I love to cook!

Please share any grilling tips you might have for me! I'm hoping to avoid any major fails!

Re: Grilling FAIL

  • Don't poke the meat and remember to let it rest.

  • DH does the grilling at our house, I barely touch the grill... but one thing I'd say, is don't get too engrossed in something else while its cooking. We end up with charcoal sausages way too often ;)
  • I love grilling! Although, DH does most of the grilling around here, I help.  We're grilling steaks and a foil packet of cheesy potatoes this weekend!

Do you have a gas grill or charcoal?  We have a charcoal grill, and the only tip I really have is to make sure that your grill/coals are hot enough before you start cooking.

  • I'm the griller in our household.  I love it.  Just make sure your heat isn't too high. And don't be intimidated by grilling a variety of things - have fun with it!

  • Great point from the previous poster about letting the meat rest! It is so much juicer when you let it rest tented with foil for even 5 minutes. Another hint for great results is marinade - marinading even the toughest cuts of meat can yield some really great results!

My only tip is not to limit yourself by just grilling steak or burgers. Think about ribs, chicken, seafood, sweet potatoes, peppers, zucchini, pinapple, peaches...you name it! You could BBQ something for every course...so many options! ;)
