cannot eat pork?

The last few times I've eaten pork I've gotten terribly ill. I don't know what it is but I just cannot digest pork. Anyone else have similar experiences?

I never have this issue with beef or poulty, just pork:(

Re: cannot eat pork?

  • that's so strange, b/c pork is so mild. Do all cuts -like ham and bacon- make you sick? I don't know what I'd do if it ade me sick, a pig is my favorite eatin' animal...
  • oh no!  when you last had pork, was it from the same place, ie restaurant?
  • I cannot eat bacon.  I retain water with pork.  How does it make you sick? LIke sick to your stomach and like just a stuck feeling?

  • 2b- it's any form of pork. I thought the last few times it was a bug but after today I started thinking back and it seems it's any pork product. I've been throwing up all day at work and....tmi...but  it's all the meat from last night. ((just seriously so gross, it's like my stomach didn't digest any of that meat???))
  • My mom, sister, grandma and I all have this same problem.  Some of us can't eat any pork and some of us can eat fresh pork but no cured pork.  I used to be able to eat fresh pork and now it's made me sick the last few times I've eaten it. The best answer that the dr has for us is that it's a form of IBS that's triggered by something in pork products.
  • Wow interesting.

I think bacon is the one thing that's keeping me from going full-fledged vegetarian. lol

Maybe its the hormones that the pigs are given to stimulate their growth thats showing up in the meat thats affecting you...???

  • I have been veggie for 5 years for this reason.  All meat makes me really sick like you described.   Its because i got really bad bacteria disease while I was living new zealand from eating chicken.   my body never recovered.  My doctor said its normal.

However I did eat one tiny bite of bacon last week for the first time. Dh was cooking it.  He cooked it to the point that it was so dry it would crack into bits.  I stole a little bit.  It didnt' make me sick!

But i've kinda done this before with bacon.  If i keep it in the pan until its so cooked that it crumbles, i can sometimes handle a small piece of it.

My guess is theres a hormone in the pig that is causing it or some kind of additive.. or even maybe a bacteria?  but i dont think you'd have bacteria if its fully cooked.

In my case, the chicken wasn't cooked properly that trigger the reaction and i haven't been able to eat meat since.

I tried a very very small piece of ham two christmas ago.

And i thought i was going to have to go to the ER cuz i couldn't stop vomitting.   =(

So i've just learned to live with no meat.   =(

  • i would cry if i couldn't eat bacon.

  • Autumn, I wish I had your strength...but i guess its your condition that is mostly preventing you from eating meat. BUt for me, its kind of a guilt thing. I hate the way animals are killed so we can eat them, yet I have never been able to just put a full-on ban from meat.

But I have found that I do very well on limiting my intakes of meat. 90% of the time I can do very well on eating just sides when our family cooks....we're mexican so that tends to be rice and beans.

But bacon...bacon is the one thing that will draw me in...but I have made one stand in animal rights and do not buy products from companies that test on animals. Yeah, I guess as you can tell, I voted yes on Prop 2...:)

  • Well, I guess it's good to know I'm not the only one. I ended up leaving work early today because I was sweating and vomitting all damn day. Terrible feeling. Just cannot believe this crap because there are some pork dishes, specifically chinese, that tastes incredible. Seriously bummed:(

  • anitanichole just be careful with "just eating sides."

I did that at first too.   Then I was a wreck and had to go to the doctors.  My iron and potassium was all over the place.

Make sure you eat balanced meals and get enough iron and protein.

I had to add a lot of soy, tofu, and tempeh to my diet.

Being veggie totally is fine as long as you eat properly.

It took awhile for my iron/protein/potassiums to get out of wack.  I think like a year?

I was totally dizzy and so lethargic i could barely function.  So i went to the doctor.  That's when he suggested a diet specialist.

Once I changed my diet, i was totally fine!

    =)
