Several months ago, I made up my mind to lose weight,I was successful, family always congratulated me when they saw me"you look great, etc. Then I became ill,I lost too much weight, instead of congratulating me,people would not say anything or "are you alright? you need to stop losing, you don't look like yourself, etc" I recently had surgery and my Doctor said I need to gain some weight. I have gained weight, now family members mention my weight gin,how can I tell them my weight is very sensitive matter and it hurts y feeling with all the comments.
Re: New Body
Just tell them like that - it hurts your feelings and there are more interesting things to talk about then your body.
Congratulations on making the changes to become healthier
I know exactly how you feel. I fell ill due to complications with a surgery and lost 40 lbs. I felt unattractive, but my family consistently told me that I looked "Good!" Then when I recovered and returned to a more healthy weight family members would see me, chuckle and say, "Oh boy, I am so glad that you put the weight back on! You looked so sick!" It really bothered me to know that I was being lied to and laughed at about something I had absolutely no control over.
As women our body image is a something that we all struggle with. My best advise to you is to love yourself and take care of yourself. Treat yourself to something that will boost you up like a mani-pedi, movie, etc. Unfortunately we will always have to deal with those who have opinions about how we should look.
