How to figure out how many calories to eat

I'm so confused.... I would like to use 20 pounds.  I haven't lost anything in quite a while.   I religiously track all my food and weigh everything also, I tried eating just my bmr calories (1723 cal) and then I tried to increase the calories to 2000 but nothing seems to work.  I also run 15-20 weekly also and I never eat those calories.  I'm not sure what to do and getting extremely frustrated.  I'm 6' tall and 200 pounds if that helps at all.

Have you tried mixing up your workouts a bit? I would recommend adding strength training 2-3 times per week and varying the speed or intensity of your runs (speed intervals or hills). For your height and activity level, I definitely wouldn't recommend eating less than 2000 calories.
  • Maybe ill try that would something like the 30 day shred be a good place to start for strength?  Ill try to add more hills in my runs too and see if that helps
  • The 30 Day Shred is GREAT!! I did it and it helped me so much! One word of caution, make sure to change your eating habits to be healthier and up your water intake. That was an issue for me at first. Also note that you are not supposed to work out for 30 days straight. You will most likely end up injuring yourself.

  • There's an app called Myfitnesspal that my trainer recommended.  I love it.  Also, I talked to my doctor about drinking water.  I know everyone says 8 cups a day but turns out that's just an average.  As an esthetican, I tell my clients to take their weight (in lbs) and divide by two, the resulting number is how many ounces of water you should drink per day and my doctor agrees 100%.  And I also agree with switching up the exercises.
  • What helped me the most when I was working on losing my baby weight was a few different at home programs and myfitnesspal for tracking calories. I'm not an expert by any means but I have gotten the best results with clean eating and mostly weight training. I have done a combination of running, P90x, Chalene Extreme and Body Beast. All are great for strength training. I also did the 30 day shred and loved it too! This past winter I trained for a 1/2 marathon, so I did a ton of running and minimal weight training and I did not see a change in my body at all. After I ran the race, I added weights back to the my rountine and really started to see a difference! If you need any advice feel free to message me, I love helping people get in shape, its such a tough thing to go through, dont go it alone :)littlemissfitb@gmail.com

    ive always liked that website.
myfitnesspal.com is really good, you can talk to people for support with your same measurements and goals. and it has a app with a barcode scanner which is pretty handy for imputing food and accurate calories for things not on file.
