Re: QOTD 5/29
Happy engage-a-versary!
December 29, 2009. We had a LONG engagement.
5/11/12...he buried the ring in our garden (in a jar) and I found it while gardening. whole family came over and we had a mini engagement party at my neighbors that night (was STARVING though b/c i didn't eat b/c i thought we were going out)
very short engagement b/c the place we got married gave us a deal not to wait the extra year for 10/13...so we took their last available 2012 date at a HUGE discount ( 85$pp instead of $165!!!) it was so short...that everyone thought i was pregnant.
haha well...7mo later, still no baby...the grandmas are getting antsy haha
Christmas Day 2011. We were supposed to be at H's dad's house in NC for a few days. One of H's employees called and quit on Christmas Eve so at 8:00 PM, we had to pack up the car and head back to DC. We got home and H needed to go into work for a few hours. I was just awake, drinking coffee when he came home. We had decided not to buy each other gifts but only do stockings. I had joked that the only thing I wanted in my stocking was a diamond ring. Well, that was the only thing in my stocking
7-5-11!
We were on vacation in Cape Cod. I think he originally wanted to propose on July 4th (I have a weird thing with the #4 and significant moments in my life happening on a 4), but our plans got all messed up that day. We had originally planned on going to the fireworks in Hyannis, but we stayed at the beach longer than we thought we would and decided to just go out to dinner instead of going to the fireworks. Looking back on it, this explains why he was freaking out that night LOL!
The next day, we went to the beach in the afternoon (Nauset beach) and then got fish 'n chips take out for dinner and drove up to one of the bay beaches (First Encounter) to watch the sunset (Cape Cod bay beaches face west, so you can watch beautiful sunsets right over the ocean). DH was so nervous that we weren't going to make it to the beach in time for sunset. Then he rushed me through my dinner and was acting all sorts of crazy.
We took a walk on the beach, watched the sunset, and as I was packing up out beach blankets I found him on 1 knee with a ring in hand. It was perfect : )
Seipel - since you hate 13, you'll hate our story! haha.
We got engaged on 9-13-11, married 13 months later on 10-13-12. He was planning on proposing the week before on Labor Day because we were in Gatlinburg (which is kind of our go to vacation spot), but it rained and poured and flooded, so there wasn't good opportunity. (The flooding led to us getting our sweet furbaby Dutch, so it wasn't all bad!).
We had talked about he was probably going to propose on a Tuesday (I knew it was coming because he had dinner with my parents to ask permission a few weeks before). Between his work and school schedule, Tuesday nights were the only one that would work. I left work that afternoon and I called him to see when he was coming over. He said he was at his parents house and would come over in a little while. My roommate called to ask where I was because we were supposed to go get our eyebrows threaded at the mall, but I later found out it was to check up on me. I hung up and called my mom and was chatting with her as I got home.
I walked in my front door and there was H, on one knee in my foyer. It was probably the only way he could have surprised me! I screamed so loud my mom thought I was getting murdered. I just shouted "David's proposing, I gotta go!!!" We have it on video and have pictures. It's funny because in one picture I'm walking in the door, holding my purse and lunchbox, sunglasses on my head, phone in hand, and in the picture 4 seconds later, lunchbox, purse, and sunglasses on the ground, I kicked off my shoes and everything!
11/19/11
H was studying for the last section of the CPA exam that he needed to take. He asked me if I wanted to go for a walk. It was a little chilly, so I didn't want to go, but I felt bad that he was studying so much so I said yes. We stopped at a deli and got sandwiches to eat in the car, then H asked if we could go to the path where he told me he loved me for the first time.
We were walking and chatting and I was freezing. I almost asked to turn around, but something told me to just walk and not complain. We got to this bridge over a small waterfall (where H said I love you) and we started joking about how insignificant that spot was. H was standing to my right and moved. I looked at him and he asked me what I was looking for. I said that I wasn't looking for anything. That's when he pulled out the box and asked, "Are you looking for this?" I was like are you serious and he got down on his knee, opened the box and proposed. There was an older couple in the distance who saw the entire thing. After they walked past and congratulated us, I realized I should have given them my phone and asked them to take a photo. I kick myself to this day for not asking for a photo.
Looks like I had the LONGEST engagement. Aug. 30, 2008!!
I was away at school and had come home for labor day weekend. We had only been dating 10 months and were so young (I was only 19!) and we were apart for the first time. 10 days into my freshmen year of college, he must have REALLY missed me. When I came home for the long weekend, he proposed almost immediately. It was so sudden and NOT planned at all, he didn't have a ring or anything. he just blurted it out. we said we were engaged, but knew we would wait until 2012 when I graduated so most people didn't take us seriously. it felt more real when I got my ring (May of 2010. ughh waited SO long! ha) and when we set a date.
