Do you have any vacations planned for summer?

Hi everyone! My name is Julie. My local board is so boring and dead so I am just trying to make conversation on other more active boards! Does anyone have vacation plans for the summer? Where are you going? MH and I are going to Universal Studios Orlando for 5 nights in August. I can't wait! Hotel is booked, now just need to get flights and figure out if it's worth it to rent a car.

Re: Do you have any vacations planned for summer?

  • Hi Julie, that sounds like fun! I haven't been to Disney in years.

DH and I just celebrated our 1 yrs anniversary with a Caribbean cruise earlier this month, so that is our only vacay planned for this year, unless we do a weekend getaway or something which we've never done before. We are trying to save money...blah...  :o)

  • Universal is AWESOME! My H & I went specifically to visit the Wizarding World Of Harry Potter...amazing! Assuming you are a fan, make sure you have butter beer when you are there...and also, if you are a real beer drinker, go into the Hogs Head and have a Hogs Head brew...it's a craft beer specifically brewed for the Harry Potter park and is quite tasty to wash down with your lunch ;)

My H & I are going to Barcelona for 10 days for Sonar Festival...we leave next Thursday actually. I can't wait - its the first time we are going since we lived there, so we will see our friends for first time in almost 4 years.

September, we are also taking a trip to Armenia.....family trip, so it's more of an educational/pilgrimage thing since they are from there...I'm looking forward to it....always down to explore new places and I can check this off my bucket list ;)

  • Welcome!!

DH and I do an annual cruise, usually in early fall (around sept/oct). We usually get a big group of friends together and go for a week. Its always so much fun!

I won tickets to Disney World on the radio a few months ago and we have yet to use them.. so maybe we will go sometime soon. We went there for our honeymoon and had a great time, but haven't been back since.

Have fun in Universal! I love it there!

ETA- We're also going skydiving in June! Just taking a day trip, so not sure if that counts as a vacation...

  • Have fun! :)

H and I just got back from a trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico to celebrate a new job he will be starting next week. It was our 2nd time going to an all-inclusive resort and they are just so much fun! Free drinks and food :)

Nothing else planned for the summer except for maybe taking a few weekend trips.

it sounds like such a blast! I recently went to sea world in Orlando and Busch Gardens in Tampa a few months ago... I REALLY wish I went to Universal! Let us know how it is, I think I might want to go back and check it out myself some time soon (my cousin lives down in Tampa, it might be a great trip to make with him!)

So far this summer my July is packed with family stuff and weddings, I'm hoping to plan something fun / a small getaway in August some time, but it's such a hot month! I'm still debating on what to do...

Oh you absolutely must go to Universal....you will feel like a kid again :)

  • No vacation plans for us. We have 3 weddings in September that we're travelling for, so we have to save save save. We're also going to be too busy with our new house (hopefully closing next week!) - vacations will have to wait.

AHHH i need to do it then!!!! I don't know why we didn't go when I was down there... I need one of those sort of trips that's light-hearted and just over all a load of fun! One of my best friends that I have known for 15 years goes to Disney World EVERY year. She used to go as a kid, then as a teenager and now as an adult... now her entire family goes and her nephews go too. I'm not too sure about taking the same vacay every year over and over, but she is always soooo happy about it and she looks forward to going every year! :)

Yea, see, I think it's just one of those kind of vacations where it's perfectly acceptable to act like a kid again....when people get older, they tend to just get caught up in the mundane of adult life but to be able to release without feeling guilty about it - best feeling ever. I am dying to go back to Universal again - I?m a huge Harry Potter fan and I could just spend an entire day in that part of the park alone drinking Hogs Head brew. lol

  • Just down the shore.

Next year I plan on going to Graceland.:) I've always wanted to see it -- and then back to Key West some day --- or one of the lesser Keys, like Marathon or Largo.:)
  • We have two week-long beach trips planned.  One with my family in Oregon, one with DH's family in Georgia.  I just started a new job, so that's all my vacation time and then some.  I'm sad that we will miss out on our annual backpacking trip in California this year, but I can't really complain: we've been on two of the world's most popular and amazing multi-day hikes in the past 6 months: Kalalau in Hawaii and the Inca Trail in Peru.
  • As of right now just a few weekend trips to New York and Chicago and maybe one up to Lake Erie to stay at a friends camper. We just got married and I used most of my vacation time on the wedding and honeymoon so trips won't be happening until next year probably.

We're pretty short of funds right now, so we won't be leaving the province. For our one-year anniversary, we're heading to a small town on a lake that's not too far away from here. It's a bit kitschy and touristy, but I think it will still be fun to get away from the city for a weekend. If all else fails, we booked a room with a jacuzzi! We'll probably also make trips to see my family (5 hours north of us) and H's family (3 hours south).
  • H and I just got back from a week in Southern Spain.  He's now deployed.  I'm going with my brother this summer to visit our cousin and his wife in Krakow, Poland.

DD and I are going to the beach for a week as well where we live in NC with some family.   Our family loves to travel, so we make it happen.

Hiking the Inca Trail was the best trip I ever took.  It was pre-DH and I want to take him back there.

  • This year, our whole family is traveling to Boston for a relaxing and historic vacation. I am totally psyched. If anyone else here plans to travel to Boston anytime soon, I highly recommend browsing the MassVacation website to find fun things to do while in the city.
