Is a Victoria's Secret bathingsuit a worthy purchase?

Hi everyone! I have a couple two piece suits that I like but don't love how i look in them. I recently found an awesome tankini top @ kohls but still need bottoms. Anyway, I am wondering if a bathing suit from Victoria's Secret is worth the $$? They seem so pricey to me, and I stopped shopping there for bras (exception for specialty bras) b/c even w/proper washing, the expensive bras I got were fraying and stuff just as quickly as non-expensive. So I guess my question is have you had good experience w/buying a Vickie's bathing suit, has it lasted you a couple summers, etc? Is it worth it?

  • Honestly, if you get one of their bathing suits on sale, they really aren't that expensive compared to a place like Macy's. I love Kohl's but I can never seem to find a bathing suit I like there, especially with the added frustration of finding matching pieces. I bought a VS black bikini 3 years ago and it's still holding up just fine. I'm small in the chest department so I love that they have options for push ups, etc. It seems like VS always has sales of some kind, especially online, so just keep your eyes peeled!

Yes. I've had a few bathing suits from VS for a few years now. We frequent the beach in the summer so I do get a fair amount of wear out of the suits. I think after about 4 years I'm starting to finally see some wear on one of my black swimsuits but I think I've gotten my $'s worth.

I will say that they're very basic materials and not really "lined". Maybe they put extra lining on the lighter ones but something I would keep in mind if you're ordering a lighter color.

Also, some of the "twist" suits are a little more pretty than functional. For example, I have a band top which twists from one boob to the other. It sometimes looks like it's trying to untwist if I'm not laying on the sand or have the little straps attached if I'm taking a walk. But, I think this would be an issue with any swimsuit this style.

I do have  to say that I don't notice any stretching or loss of elasticity even after a couple years. This is not something that I can say for cheaper (ie. Old Navy) swimsuits.

I personally went away from VS for a little while and now am going back, especially now that I need some new swim stuff!

I have never bought a bathingsuit from them... probably because you have to order them from their magazine (right?)... I have never been able to shop online for clothes or order from a magazine -- I have to try things on to make sure the purchase will be a success! I know loads of people that buy from magazines and websites -- it works for them!

If you order from them -- let me know if it's worth giving it a shot! I'm always curious!

They definitely have the swim suits in most of their stores but usually it's hard to find matching ones that are the right size, especially during a sale. I got mine online. Luckily you can return items for free in-store if they don't fit.

  • I found a bathing suit at Victoria's Secret that I thought I absolutely loved. However, the two pieces were going to cost me at least $70. I decided against it. I ended up buying three bathing suits from Old Navy, and still saved money. I'm happy with the way I look in them, I think they are comfortable, and they serve their purpose. I did purchase one two years ago while in the states. I thought it looked great, but I was quite disappointed with the quality and even comfort (it was definitely for looks). Based on that, I don't even know why I was going back to look for another.

  • Totally worth it. I have a drawer that's full of bathing suits, and my VS ones are the ones I tend to wear the most often. (I also have an Anne Klein that I love, and I just got my first Calzedonia, so we'll see how that one holds up over time, as well.)

Much better than the bathing suits that I used to get from places like Macy's, and definitely noticeably better than the ones I used to get, a million years ago, from Walmart.

My only qualm is that their metallic ones don't seem to hold up so well in hot tubs (the color gets slightly darker), but that might just be that I wasn't able to immediately rinse it, so take that with a grain of salt.

  • I have not had much luck with their swimsuits.  The stores near me don't carry swimsuits, so it's strictly online ordering.  I feel like their suits are cheaply made given the price...ie very thin material, not enough lining, seams start fraying after the first wash.  I'd rather spend a little more money, and buy something that's better quality. I've been extremly happy with BCBG, and have a couple of their suits for 5+ years. Same goes with Juicy..

I bought a V Secret 2 piece from Ebay (it was new with tags) last year for less than V Secret catalog, I've had no issues with it and I love it.
  • The Semi-Annual Sale is going on right now so it's the perfect time to buy VS!  I have had some of mine for a few years now and are holding up well.  I also don't swim a lot either though.  But I wash all my VS bras and suits on delicate cycle and put in lingerie bags (try Tide brand-love!) and have no issues with fraying or wearing out from washing.
  • I might be bias... I love everything VS... one way to save $ on their suits though... buy the VS top and get a bottom in complimentary color elsewhere. :)  I did that with a black & white polka dot suit I LOVE!
