We have a 7-year-old spayed prebred beagle.
She doesn't get walked as much as she used to now that we have children, however, she does get to be outside on her run quite a bit throughout the day on nice days, and she is let out for scheduled potty breaks 4-5 times per day regardless of weather.
Within the past few weeks, we have begun smelling urine in our carpeted areas of the home as we walk by or as DH wrestles with the kids on the floor.
We've had her for years and aside from puppy times, she only has had urine accidents on rare occasions if she drank a lot and we lapsed in getting her outside in time. On those occasions, she has been smart enough to pee on the tile or hardwood floor instead of the carpet.
Today alone, I discovered 6 small urine spots in our upstairs hallway carpet. The thing is, you cannot see them, to find them you have to get down and stick your nose to the floor and sniff for them.
This tells me that she is peeing in small amounts. Also, we never walk through wetness anywhere in the home to alert us to an accident. It's like the amount is so small that it goes rigth into the carpet and is sucked away from the surface.
I've also noticed that on walks she seems to attempt to pee a lot but nothing comes out and this seems to be more than her usual attempts at marking territory.
Aside from teh urine spots inside and the odd attempts outside she does not seem to be in any pain, there is no blood, and her body parts look normal.
Anybody have experience like this? I'm thinking a vet appointment is in order. Honestly, I'm hoping this is an infection and not a permanent issue we will be dealing with.
Re: Dog Urine Incontinence!?
Ditto PP's!! Get that baby to a vet.
My lab has had a few UTI's and those sound exactly like her symptoms.
We went to the vet this morning. She does have a massive UTI. While I feel bad for her, I am so glad we have a definitive answer!
glad you took her and i hope the meds work quickly!
We had to take our lab-boxer mix in for this same problem a few weeks ago. 1 week of antibiotics helped, but didn't totally knock it out so now we're on round two of antibiotics and they've put her on a UT supplement for dogs.
Hope the meds help your pup.
