tile your shower?

We will be renovating our bathroom soon, and I have been thinking we'd lay tile all the way up the wall to the ceiling of our shower, but our tile guy told us it would look odd to do so. I swear I've seen a ton of people who tile all the way to the ceiling on pinterest, so I am a bit confused. What about any of your bathrooms? How far up did you tile your shower?

  • i would show your tile  person some photos of what you have in mind...  If he sees a picture he may have a better understanding.  And if he is still hesitant I would consider finding someone else who would have more confidence/experience to carry out your vision.  Even if the guy is handy and capable, sometimes it helps to have someone who better sees the vision of the end product especially if they have done similar jobs before.  Then again, once he sees the pictures he may say "oh now I know what you mean, that won't be a problem at all).
  • Our's is tiled all the way up. Very rarely do I see tile only done to 6-6.5' high anymore.

regardless of what the tile guy thinks, if you want it to the ceiling, that's what should be done :-)

  • Our bathroom tile, which is only in the shower/tub, is tilled straight up to the ceiling.

    All the way baby...

We have an enclosed shower which is completely tile. My mom is a designer and their showers have glass doors and are open after maybe the 7' mark but they too put tiles all the way up.

I agree, the gap between the top of the bath and the ceiling is a dated look. We have it in one bathroom and I hate it.

Show pictures. Go with what you like or you'll never be happy!

  • Two years ago just before our wedding we had to completely re-do the master bath due to a sever leak and mold.  We used larger 13" tile and tile all the way to the ceiling the floor of the shower is tumbled marble and we installed frameless 1/2" thick glass partition and door with brush nickel pulls and towel bar.  Our bathroom doesn't look "old" at all we also used the same tile on the floor of the toilet/shower area.

For some reason I cannot upload pictures.
