HORRIBLE period after implanon removal - HELP?
I started my period at 15. I've never had horrible symptoms. Barely any mood swings, light cramping and light bleeding for 3 days. I was extremely regular. I went on Implanon when I got engaged because my Dr. said I could bleed 6-9 months before my body got used to it and our wedding was only 10 months away. I was on Implanon for almost two years. The side effects where terrible. I had NO libido and my mood swings were horrible. It also increased my anxiety and made me miserable. After having it removed, I became pregnant but miscarried. Since then, I have had two periods. Both have been absolutely horrible. I've had intense mood swings, extreme cramping that makes it hard to breathe, diarrhea, constipation, breast tenderness, headaches, uncontrollable crying, loss of appetite, extreme aggravation. EVERYTHING makes me angry and what's worse is I feel as though I have no control over it. I'm the only person I know of who was stupid enough to go on Implanon, so I don't know what to compare to. Is any of what I'm going through normal and will it ever level out?
I feel hopeless. My husband and I have been fighting non-stop and I know it's my fault because of my crazy emotions and moodiness. But when we fight, I feel relentless when I get as frustrated and angry as I have been. It's absolutely horrible and I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Help??
Re: HORRIBLE period after implanon removal - HELP?
Hi
I went on Implanon after college b/c I was not sure when I would have insurance again and it was a way to have birth control for three years w/o worrying about a prescription for the pill. Anyway, I had it in for 2.5 years before developing painful ovarian cysts and decided to have it removed. After removal, I got my period back right away. Before Implanon, I had irregular periods and now they are like clockwork (I am not on any birth control now). I did not have mood swings when I had it in and I didn't see a change in my mood after I got it out. If anything, I feel a lot healthier now b/c my cysts went away and any bloating I had from the Implanon is also gone. The only negative thing was that I did have bad breakouts for about two months after removal b/c of my hormones getting back to normal.
I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. This is just a guess, but do you think that your body was trying to regulate your hormones after getting off implanon, then you miscarried, and now you are super out of whack hormone-wise? It might not be solely the implanon that is causing all of this, it could be the combination of the two? Have you seen your doctor about this?
I have not known anyone else that has had this same reaction after having it removed, but everyone is different. I hope you start feeling better soon
Just like any birth control, they affect everyone differently. If you are still having problems, contact your doctor, if they don't give you the answer you want, find another doctor. For me, I know that doctors are just going to tell you their opinion and rarely actually look into the underlying cause. I usually do research on my own to find a doctor that has good reviews as far as listening to their patients and helpful feedback. Its hard to find one these days who is interested in their patients. Keep trying girl. Sorry for the trouble you've encountered. I sent a prayer up for you
Good luck
All that aside - I got on the pill as soon as I could after getting it out and that regulated my periods really well. Even if you are TTC I would suggest thinking about a BC pill to get on to regulate your periods for now to even things out. The Implanon has so many hormones that your body might be way out of whack.
I agree with canides13 about going to the dr and if that one doesnt help you find another one. That kind of a period isnt normal, yeah every woman is different but that sounds like purgatory.
