City to well water? Possible?

My fianc? and I are buying our first house in a small town that has horrible city water. They have a small water plant with the basics to make it city water from the local lake. Anyways, my question is can I convert from city water to well water? I grew up with well water so it's nothing new to me. The well water may actually be better than this city's water :/ ha ha

Thanks!!

Re: City to well water? Possible?

  • You would only be able to get well water if there is water available underground on your plot.  This would cost a lot of money though, so you may want to research in-home water filtration systems instead, which will take in your city water, and run it through a filtration system prior to coming out of your faucets.  This will be a much smaller expense, plus, it won't require tearing up your yard or running new pipes.
  • Your first step is going to your town hall.  You may be on town water because you may not be allowed to have a well on your property for any number of different reasons.

  • Consider getting a reverse osmosis filter.  You may run into zoning issues with putting a well in.  Even if the city lets you it will be very expensive.
