Father's Day

What's everyone doing for the dads in your lives?

I am hoping we get a decent weather day this week so I can take DD to the park and do a little photo shoot.  I want to do last year's popular gift of the three pics with D A D.  I'm also getting H some collar stays from Etsy since he accidentally sent his other ones to the dry cleaners.

I made strawberry sour cream ice cream for my dad.   I do this every year.

Re: Father's Day

  • DH's request was that we go up to Bethlehem on Friday night and stay with his grandmother so we can do a 5K walk with her in the morning. So we're doing that.

On Father's Day, we'll be at my goddaughter's birthday party, which isn't ideal, but both of our dads will be there (his family is close with mine).

I'm getting him a gas-powered leaf blower, which is what he wants. Exciting stuff. I'm also going to do new versions of the D-A-D pictures so he can replace the ones in his frame from last year.

For my dad, we're all chipping in to get him a new wine rack. This marks possibly the first time he has asked for anything more exciting than underwear and socks (literally).

  • For my dad I think my sister and I may go in on a gc for Ruth Chris.  My parents have never been.  FIL is no longer with us.

For DH, he just likes getting gift cards.  So that's what I'm getting him this year, probably to a couple of places near his work that he likes.

I'm having my immediate family over on Saturday for a pizza lunch.

Sunday I am taking DH to brunch.

  • Sunday, J is going to run me up to my dad's grave.  He's buried at Washington Crossing, which is a bit of a hike from our house. It's only been a year and a half since he passed unexpectedly, so it's still a little rough.

Afterwards, we are off to my in-laws.  J's grandfather just passed away last month, so this Sunday is probably going to be rough for his mom, who is pretty emotional as it is.

Hopefully Sunday isn't as miserable as it sounds. I'm sure there will be tears, but with all of the kids running around, I'm thinking it will still be a good day.

  • SJU, I hope this weekend is at least semi-OK for you.

Our plans are still way up in the air.  DH has to figure out what he's doing with his own father.  It's a long story, but his dad doesn't want to see me or the kids usually- just DH.  My brother in law is taking FIL golfing Sunday morning, but my DH said no to that- he doesn't want to give up his own Father's Day with his kids to golf all day (BIL is single and does not have children of his own).  So I'm not sure if DH will try to see his dad at some other point Sunday or maybe swing by Saturday or just leave it at a phone call and mailing a card...no idea.

We do have pug group on Sunday afternoon, which I'd like to try to get my dogs out to.  Yes, I am insane.

I did tell my mom we would come to their house for dinner, and she is waiting to hear from me to decide a time based on working around whatever DH decides to do with his dad.

I got DH the new Dan Brown book.  That's the only author he actually will sit and take the time to read- so he'll probably save it for vacation in August. I have to get to the store to get my dad some shorts- he has MS and the heat really really is an issue for him, and Columbia makes some real lightweight shorts that actually make him feel cooler- something in the material I guess.

  • My dad is up in NY and has to work on Sunday, but hopefully he will be able to come to PA for a visit soon to celebrate.

BIL is coming to spend the weekend with us and hopefully my FIL will come to our house to bbq and spend some time on Sunday.

I will be getting Martin a card and maybe a little onsie or something dad related.

  • DH is going to the US Open w/ his friends (who are here from the UK!) on Friday & Saturday, so I'm counting that as his gift since I'll be home with both kids...haha. I'll probably make brunch for everyone on Sunday.

Not sure what we'll do for my dad. Maybe a gift card to somewhere and make him and my mom dinner.

  • Not sure what to get my dad this year but I just found out that he's been battling the squirrels that eat out of his bird feeders. I thought it would be hilarious to get him a super soaker water gun. He's recently retired and I can totally picture him sitting on his porch and shooting water at the squirrels all day.

I'll be up in CT for the weekend but DH isn't coming with me. I'll likely make him a mango cake before I leave. I'd like to acknowledge the holiday for him somehow and the mango cake is our traditional celebratory cake.
