What is your favorite type of food? (Italian, Mexican, etc.): hmmm i dont think i have a favorite, im all over the board- American, Seafood, Italian. I will say that I am not a mexican fan

Name: Jen
What is your favorite type of food? (Italian, Mexican, etc.): It's probably a tie between Italian and Mexican
What is your favorite thing to eat?: Pasta, pasta, pasta
What is your favorite thing to cook?: Hmmm, right now it's anything on the grill. But in the winter I love to do a good braised beef or chicken that makes my apartment smell sooo good.
What is something you always try to make, but it never comes out right?: Homemade ravioli
How many people do you cook for? Any picky eaters?: Just DH and me. He's the complete opposite of picky.
Do you prefer cooking or baking?: If someone will wash my dishes, baking. If not, cooking. :-)
What is your tried-and-true go-to recipe?: For a side, it's definitely my foil-packet cheesy potatoes. Layer thinly sliced potatoes, diced onions, S&P and cheese on oiled foil, top with butter and grill or bake until potatoes are done. Yum. For a main dish, it's harder because I rarely make things more than two or three times (I love trying new things). I would have to say my Chili has staying power. So does the Panzanella I make in the summer.
Your favorite TV chef/cook?: Giada DeLaurentiis's recipes always turn out well for me, so I like watching her. I also watch the Chew in the summer (I'm watching right now, Christy!)
my read shelf:
Try this! It's a never-fail. People always ask for the recipe and I just laugh and show them the packet

My problem is that I follow the directions on the meat for how many minutes per pound, and it always ends up raw when it is supposed to be done. Meanwhile I've cooked all my side dishes, so they are done and the pork is raw. I gave up after the second time that happened.
And a month or so ago, we stopped eating red meat and pork, so now I don't have to worry about it I guess! But thanks for the suggestion.
What is your favorite type of food? (Italian, Mexican, etc.): New southern (say, like, duck with cherry sauce on sweet potato puree or white chocolate bread pudding). No, I'm not whipping up duck on the weeknights lol, but the above is my fave restaurant meal!
What is your favorite thing to eat?: Probably pork tenderloin party sandwiches (a local thing) - it's gonna be a fun night if you see those.
What is your favorite thing to cook?: Anything that garners compliments
What is something you always try to make, but it never comes out right?: Fish. I set my last attempt on fire LOL. I can make all sorts of complicated dishes with pages of steps and exotic ingredients and hours of work, but fish? I'm gonna screw it up every time.
How many people do you cook for? Any picky eaters?: Just the two of us, but I throw a party (either a dinner party or I'll scrounge up an excuse for a party-party) about every 6 weeks.
Do you prefer cooking or baking?: Lately, cooking, because I've been eating super healthfully and sweets just aren't in the plan!
What is your tried-and-true go-to recipe?: This is probably my favorite thing of all time. Great for weeknights, great for casual winter get togethers, and I've never met a person who didn't like it. Rave reviews when I serve to company. Freezes perfectly for taking to work and microwaving for lunch.

Favorite type of food: Some days Italian, some days Mexican, others American...
Favorite thing to eat: Pizza! The possibilities are endless...And sandwiches. Same reason.
Favorite thing to cook: Soup. I like making soup. I make my own broth from vegetable scraps and keep it in the freezer, so I start out one step ahead. And I love to chop! Plus, it's a great way to use up spare veggies and beans, lentils, the bottom of a box of pasta... anything you've got!
Something I always try to cook, but never comes out right: Omelets! I've tried every trick in the book, but they pretty much always end up as scrambled eggs, often burned...
How many people do you cook for? Any picky eaters?: Usually just my husband and myself, but I love inviting guests for dinner! I suppose I could be classified as a picky eater, as my eating habits range between vegan and pescetarian, depending on my willpower on a given day, week or month. But there are a million new and fun vegetarian dishes out there to try, so it's never a problem. Luckily, my husband will try pretty much anything once!
Cooking or Baking: Cooking. Baking requires a lot more precision than I usually have patience for...
Tried and true recipe: I don't really have one! I love trying new recipes, so I rarely make things more than once... but my husband has a delicious tried and true lasagna recipe, layering sauteed veggies (whatever is in season or cheap) with shredded cheese and canned sauce... sometimes he adds ricotta or tofu. Simple, easy and delicious!
Favorite TV chef/cook: Gordon Ramsey, no doubt! SO sexy, love the accent, and competitive reality TV is such a guilty pleasure...
I can never make soup! It's either too watery or too too thick!
I also second your thoughts on Gordon Ramsey.
I totally forgot about this for myself! I SUCK at making any type of egg- scrambled, over easy, omelet. no matter what i do, its burned or not cooked enough. My DH always laughs at me and says you make so many things that are far more complicated but you cant make eggs, hahaha
What is your favorite type of food? (Italian, Mexican, etc.): I Love Mexican and Italian Food!
What is your favorite thing to eat?: Burritos with fresh salsa and guacamole and lots of rice and homemade beans on the side.
What is your favorite thing to cook?: Tamales
What is something you always try to make, but it never comes out right?: Fried Rice--somehow it never tastes as good as when I get take-out
How many people do you cook for? Any picky eaters?: My husband and myself and 3 little kids (our nieces & nephew). I'm a vegan, but everyone usually eats whatever I make...does that make me picky? lol The kids are going through a phase where they won't eat anything green, so there's that I guess.
Do you prefer cooking or baking?: Cooking. My husband is a much better baker than me!
What is your tried-and-true go-to recipe?: Super Easy Tomato Sauce and pasta. Chop up an onion and some garlic, saute in olive oil. Add a few cans of diced tomatoes, some Italian herbs (fresh if we have it, otherwise just dry is fine too). You can add a splash of red wine to make it super yummy too. Simmer for as long as you want (or until your pasta is done cooking). After I drain the pasta, I like to saute it in some olive oil and garlic for extra flavor.
Your favorite TV chef/cook?: Tough one--Either Ramsey or Guy Fieri (sp?)
