Low Lying Placenta Update
Well it moved...and now it's totally covering my cervix, full placenta previa. I'll go back for a scan at 32 weeks to check again and I'll be the obnoxious woman that demands another scan the day before the c-sections but even my midwife agrees with the OB that we need to start preparing for a scheduled delivery at 37 weeks. I'm more than a little crushed at the moment and totally terrified of having a c-sections but keep trying to remind myself of how amazingly awesome my son is doing otherwise.
Re: Low Lying Placenta Update
The positive side is that baby boy New Queen is doing great! Sorry that you have to go the C section route, and the low lying placenta issue. But, the positive side is it sounds like you are cooking a healthy baby boy! How much longer? And, how was the shower? I am sure you looked great, and hope you had a super time!
I'm sorry that you didn't get news you wanted. I know what a bummer that is. Scheduled c/s aren't the worst thing in the world! I had one scheduled so throw any questions my way if you like.
ditto pp! How was your shower?
I'm so sorry to hear this, I know how much you were looking forward to an intervention free birth. You've gotten some really good advice from the pps. I will add that I learned from this pregnancy if you have previa the first time and have a csection doesn't mean that you'll be an automatic csection for any future kids (if that's a concern).
As you know I've really struggled with this pregnancy and then deciding on a csection. I still have a pipe dream that I'll go into labor on my own before the csection and have him as I'm walking in the door. It's never easy to give up what your vision is, but most of us have in one capacity or another. I mourned my birth with Brooks, the fact that I went so long and ended in an emergency C. But I allowed myself to mourn the fact that I didn't get the experience I envisioned and I was then able to bask in the glory that I had a beautiful and healthy baby boy. He nursed like a champ, I healed relatively quickly, and when we were discharged I came home mentally prepared to do this parenting thing.
Be well and like others said focus on the fact that he's healthy and you are a great gestator.
I'm so bummed for you. I know how it feels to not get the birth you plan. Did you speak with the doulas too? They are very helpful in just making you feel more at ease.
The good news you are going to get an awesome baby out of this.
Anything is possible, which is why they will do a follow up scan at 32 weeks and I'll demand another scan right before the c/s but my particular case doesn't seem hopeful. There are three types of placenta previa- low-lying, partial and total. At 20 weeks, I was low-lying and told not to worry because in the majority of cases, the placenta "moves up" on it's own as the uterus is stretched. Mine moved, but it went in the wrong direction and it now totally covering my cervix rather than just being close to it. The chances of me growing large enough to pull it away in the next 7 weeks are really slim. That being said, I haven't experienced any bleeding, which is the main concern and symptom of the issue.
I need to contact them still. I'm not sure what to do about continuing to use their service. We're still looking at our options but I think I'd prefer to stay with Ronni. There is a group of women surgeons she works with that would do the c/s and Ronni would continue seeing me for my check-ups and be in the OR for the delivery. DH seems to be leaning toward finding a doctor at a hospital closer to us. I think the OB that spoke to us after the scan scared the sh*t out of him when he said that I'm now "high risk" and that if I start bleeding the baby would need steroids in case an emergency c/s was needed before 34 weeks. We're also not seeing eye to eye on us still taking our scheduled trip up to Maine in early July but that's a whole other story.
I will say this I had my H go with M after I delivered and they took him away. I didn't want the little guy alone. But it was nice to have the midwife with me and I would have asked to have doula present as well especially for nursing purposes those first few tries.
If you go to HUP or Pennsy I would invest in the private rooms since you will be there a couple of days.
On a happier topic, the shower was wonderful! It was book themed and guest were asked to bring books rather than cards so this kid has a pretty impressive collection of children's books at this point. Some of the highlights include...
Embarrassing baby photos and yummy food:
(the banner says "and baby makes three".
Book themed desserts:
A quilting activity that my MIL put together. Each guest got to make a block for the quilt. I'll post a final photo of it once the quilt has been pieced together but here's what the blocks looked liked. The theme for the quilt was "fish" in honor of DH who loves to go fishing.
The block DH and I made together:
And many, many gifts including some very impressive hand made items:
I am so sorry about your placenta previa, but so happy to hear your LO is doing awesome!
The pics of your shower are awesome! It looks like it was a beautiful day!
