Maybe Because it's Summer?

I desperately need a new face wash. Same time last year I came across the same problem, and maybe it's because it's summer time... But it's happening again. On my cheeks I am starting to break out and it looks really bad!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I really need to fix this asap!

Thanks everyone!

Re: Maybe Because it's Summer?

  • I just use Dove bar soap, but I've heard great things about Paula's Choice products. I personally haven't tried them, but I'm want to soon because all of her products are fragrance free.

  • My skin is super acne prone so I've tried everything.  My all time favorite for price and performance is Olay.  Even their night cream is well priced and as effective as the brands I've bought for twice as much at Sephora.
  • Hi, I'm an esthetician.  If this only happens in the summer it could be because your oil and sweat glands are more active and tend to clog easier.  Try not to use anything too drying (products made "for acne" like clean and clear or oxy clean)  The best cleanser for acne prone skin on a budget is Neutrogena's Deep Clean NOT their acne wash.  Using too many anti acne products strips the skin making it sensitive to more acne.  Also make sure to prevent the spread of bacteria by shampooing you makeup brushes once a week, switching pillow cases every couple of days and use a toner (alcohol free) And the occasional facial is great too.

    Oh and pass this along,

Only use facial cleansers on your face, never bar soap.  It's pH level throws your skin's own pH off (average is 5.5) and bar soap leaves a film that suffocates and clogs the skin.  Even if the soap brand says it leaves no film, remember, the lye (pH) is the bigger issue  ;)

  • I switched to Trader Joes face wash and love it. It has tea tree oil in it and has really helped beat these summer greasies.

I alternate between that and the whole foods generic cetaphil. I also have a DDF wash that I use a few nights a week.

  • Night time is actually the best time to use your face products, since the skin (and the rest of our body!) rejuvenates itself as we sleep. Many people will use their entire skin care routine at night, then in the morning just rinse with water or rose water. That doesn't work for me, because I have oily skin, but it may be something to consider.

  • tea tree oil and benzoyl peroxide worked WONDERS for my adult acne!
  • I have breakouts during the summer sometimes, too. It's just because of the heat I think. I use RE9 nowadays even though I don't need anti-aging. It keeps my skin more...normal I guess you could say since I have combination skin. It's really dependent on how bad your skin breaks out, etc. It may be as simple as finding something to help with oil production or you might need something more suited for sensitive skin.
