Does anyone make arrangements with faux flowers? I am really wanting to create one for myself for my desk top so I always have something pretty to look at... But I just dont' know how to get started. I don't want to keep spending money on real flowers that die in less than a week! Any ideas?
Re: Fake flowers
It's easy. Find flowers you like and a vase that is preferably not transparent.
You'll need some styrofoam and flowers you like. Simple styrofoam can be cut to fit into any vase by simply shaving the sides to fit, or you can find some small enough to fit into the vase you like.
The plastic covered wire stems can be cut with kitchen scissors, or you can even bend it back & forth, back & forth, until it breaks (I use pliers). Then arrange as you like.
Craft stores all sell floral foam (it's green), which is a lot easier to shape and cut than regular styrofoam.
There are varying qualities of faux flowers and greens. Nice stuff can cost you upwards of $10 per stem. But I've seem good quality things for about $7.
Try JoAnn Fabrics or Hobby Lobby. In my experience, they have more variety and higher qualities.
a small vase with colored pebbles/rocks, and a few fake blooms with some greenery is simple and pretty. my mom has fake arrangements on top of her china cabinet, bar server, etc. They look pretty.
I went the dried route. All of my wedding flowers sat out after the wedding and dried, so I rearranged them into small bouquets. They look pretty decent and still colorful for being dead =P We do have a couple live plants (aloe vera, bamboo, etc) that look nice.
