D&R: Chicago Traveling Advice Please!
BFF and I would like to meet in Chicago this Spring for about 4 days. She will fly down from Upper Pen. Mich. and I will fly up from GA. We don't mind staying away from Downtown, so long as we can get around by train, on foot. Hotels are not a priority (we would prefer to spend money shopping and doing). We both like theater, etc.
We are clueless, as neither of us has been beyond the airport or naval base.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Jennifer
Re: D&R: Chicago Traveling Advice Please!
Anything downtown in the Loop is good for that sort of stuff. The Palmer House, Hilton Chicago, Doubletree Chicago, Embassy Suites Lakeshore, Marriott Chicago, Hampton Inn downtown, and Courtyard Chicago are all very nice hotels in the Loop area, and very convenient to any shopping and touristy stuff. If you want to stay near the Theatre District, go onto mapquest and type in the name of the theatre (Cadillac Palace/LaSalle Bank Theatre, Lyric Opera, Chicago Theatre, Auditorium Theatre, etc) and search for nearby hotels - I don't remember all the hotels up on that side of the Loop. Shopping is great on Michigan Ave and State Street. Excellent shopping further up on the north side of Michigan Ave by Watertower Place (also the Drury Lane Chicago theatre is over there). Art, history, and the Field Museum are off Lakeshore Drive near Grant Park - southern side of the Loop.
The entire Loop is easily accessible via foot or via the El. The El is $2.25 (I think) per ride. Card passes are available at every El station.
