Wine

So, my dad loves wine... It's pretty much the only gift I can give him that he enjoys (either wine or wine gadgets, wine glasses, etc). I have given him pretty much every wine gadget I can think of... seriously! And, for Father's Day I really want to get him something he will enjoy.

He drinks mostly red wine. Does anyone have any good recommendations? I'm willing to spend up to $50 for a bottle. I just want to make sure he really likes it!

thanks in advance for any recs you guys give!

Re: Wine

  • Honestly -- in most cases, price doesn't matter.  There are great wines at every price point.  I've had some pretty terrible expensive wines, and some downright fantastic cheap ones! =)

I'm not sure about your location, so I don't know what's available near you.  Does he have a preference of region?  Some people love California wines but hate Australian, etc...

I've hit a few good wines from the Niagara-on-the-lake region.  Peller Estates and Reif Estate are two to check out.  Their wines are fairly reasonable too.  I know the Cab Franc at Reif is fairly popular... http://www.reifwinery.com/wines/Cabernet_Franc.  I have the Cab reserve sitting in my rack waiting to be opened...

If you can figure out a region he likes, go with something from there.  Otherwise, pick a couple from a new region and take him exploring for new favorites =)

  • do you know which type of reds he likes? that's far more important than the price.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • Not sure where you are located but I personally love Orin Swift's The Prisoner and their Location's E1.  But like people said before, get recommendations from your local wine store. They may have something local and wonderful.
